On June 30th of 2004, we sent out with all our gear for New Hampshire. It was a beautiful day with lots of sun and warm temperatures. After a long ride, a picnic in the school yard of the Meridith, NH high school, and an inpromptu potty break along the side of the road, we arrived at the Polar Caves in Plymouth, NH. We were very surprised there were only a few cars in the parking. We wondered if they were even open.
It was and we had almost the entire place to ourselves. The children bypassed the exotic birds but were facinated by the deer and the ducks. They loved feeding them and really liked the way the ducks cleaned up the ground after a person fed the deer.
We took the self guided tour through the boardwalks and caves. Because Abby's legs were so short, Bob had to carry her in front of him through most of the caves. Hard work just getting through the caves without falling but carrying a 2 year old is really a task. The first cave we entered was the Needle's Eye. It was a very deep cave that still had ice inside. We elected not to go through the Lemon Squeeze but went the alternative route (Orange Crush). You can take a virtual tour of the park if you click on the tour link and see some great pictures to get an idea of what the caves were like and what the park has to offer.
