Our Travels

I was born in Redington Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan, ME on March 18, 19??. I grew up in Madison, ME and attended Madison High School where I graduated 3rd in my class. I had a really great Biology teacher in high school named Mr. Yerxa. He was terrific and really influenced my decision to pursue science as college major.

I decided to attend St. Joseph's College in North Windham, ME and majored in Premed/Biology and minored in Chemistry. Again I had some really great professors. Dr. Ray Gerber and Dr. Anne Golubisky were excellent teachers and mentors for me in the field of Biology. Dr. William Hoyt was an excellent professor in all the Chemistry courses I had to take but also trusted me enough to be his teaching assistant. He gave me the opportunity to get some practical lab experience but also allowed me to have a fairly free hand in running his Introductory chem labs. He even gave me the opportunity to teach a couple of classes when he was absent. It really gave me a taste of what it was like to teach. I graduated first in my class and promptly went off to live in Boston.

After graduation, I sought work as a lab technician in Boston. I was hired by the Scheppens Eye Research Institute as a lab tech in the Transplantation Lab of the Neuroscience Unit. It was eye openning. We were working on retinal transplantation. I worked primarily with Dr. Robert Aramant and Dr. Magdalene Seiler. My job consisted of making microscope slides of rat and rabbit eyes. It was okay for about the first two years then it got boring and I was looking forward to the days we were terminating experiments. I decided to return to Maine and pursue my teaching certificate. I returned to St. Joseph's College and took all my courses I needed for certification in one year. I was very fortunate to have been placed with Mrs. Ann Marie McLaughlin at Windham High School for my practicum and my practice teaching. She was wonderful.

My first job after finishing my certificate was at Skowhegan Area High School. I taught freshman science for about 6 years then move up to Biology where I have been ever since. I was married on August 8, 1998 to Robert Linton Bolvin. On June 19, 1999, our son Samuel Linton arrived. Two and a half years later, our daughter Abigail arrived on December 26, 2002.

My hobbies include gardening (check out Our Garden page), scrapbooking and sewing. I really enjoy reading but unfortunately do not have lots of time to do it. My favorite book of the ones I have recently read is The Davinci Code. Its a great mystery.
